About Us

BHCOC Overview

The Black History Committee of Orange County, Inc. was established in 2002 as a not-for-profit organization, our purpose is to raise money for African American students graduating from an Orange County High School who wish to continue their education at a college and/or university and need funds to pay for their education. The organization also provides book and computer scholarships.

BHCOC Mission Statement

The mission statement of the Black History Committee of Orange County, Inc. (BHCOC) is to bring awareness and educate the citizens of Orlando, Orange County Florida and the world about Black History which is a vital part of American History

Accomplishments

The Black History Committee of Orange County, Inc., has donated over $450,000 to local schools, colleges, and universities in Orlando and throughout the State of Florida (Pineloch Elementary, Olympia High School, Valencia College, University of Central Florida, Florida A&M University, Bethune Cookman University, Edward Waters College, Florida Memorial University, and Rollins College). Also, donations have been made to the community on a local, national, and international scale (tutoring programs, water distribution for Haiti, victims of fires, Little Leagues, local churches, The Hurricane Katrina Relief effort, and more).

BHCOC Facts

  1. Over $450,000.00 has been donated in scholarships to seven colleges and universities, which includes Bethune-Cookman University, Florida A & M University, University of Central Florida, Edward Waters College, Florida Memorial University, Valencia College, and Rollins College.

  2. The Black History Committee of Orange County, Inc. funds are endowed at Valencia College.

  3. Hundreds of students have benefited from our scholarships. Please see recipients on our website page. These students graduated from an Orange County Public School and attend one of the seven colleges and universities that we fund.
